Labor Comfort 101: Tricks and Tools for the Birth Companion

The goal of Beaumont’s “Labor Comfort 101: Tricks and Tools for the Birth Companion” is to provide you and your support person with an introduction to the knowledge and skills that may help you with your birth experience.  The class will increase you and your birth companion’s confidence and knowledge towards your comfort during labor and birth.

This is a “hands-on”, active class where we will practice positioning, breathing for labor and birth, and learn a variety of comfort measures including ways to handle labor challenges and medical pain relief options.

This class does not discuss 3rd Trimester pregnancy issues, stages of labor, medical interventions or options, cesarean birth, or newborn / new mother care.  We strongly encourage you to also attend a Childbirth Class. Options include: Childbirth Education, Understanding Childbirth Express, Childbirth Independent Study,  or HypnoBirthing

If you are planning a Natural Birth this content is taught in our  Natural Birth Workshop and the Natural Birth Workshop class may suit your needs better.

The class is taught by a registered nurse/ childbirth educator.  You and your support person should attend this class together and plan to complete it about 4- 6 weeks before your baby’s due date. Please bring two pillows and a blanket or exercise mat to class for practice time. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement.

If you have any questions about this class or if it is right for you, please contact us. Maribeth Baker, R.N. or Connie Denison, Prenatal and Family Education.

Childbirth Education

Beaumont's multi-session childbirth class teaches expectant parents how to recognize and cope with the physical and emotional changes that occur with pregnancy, labor, birth and recovery.  Our class incorporates the Lamaze® technique.  Classes are taught by registered nurse childbirth educators.

During the class, we will practice breathing and relaxation techniques.  Please bring two pillows and a blanket to each class so you will be comfortable during our practice sessions.

We offer two class formats for your convenience:  Two sessions held on 2 consecutive Saturdays or four session classes held 4 consecutive weeknights.

You and your support person should attend the class together and plan to complete your birthing classes four weeks before your delivery date.

The final session of our Childbirth Education Series is held four to eight weeks after your baby is born.  You and your new baby are invited to attend a Beyond Birth class where we will talk about postpartum adjustment, time and priorities as well as parenting myths and realities. Please visit us at Beyond Birth.

If you are unable to attend this class, please visit us at Childbirth Education - Independent Study.

Please use Mom's name when registering for all prenatal classes. During checkout please ADD the Obstetrician's name and due date.
