Mindfulness 101

What is Mindfulness?
The awareness that arise from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally.

What are the Benefits?
Mindfulness enhances emotional intelligence, notably self-awareness and the capacity to manage distressing emotions. It also delivers these measurable benefits:

  • reduced stress
  • lower blood pressure
  • improved memory
  • less depression and anxiety

How can I Practice Mindfulness?
Taking a group class such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is the most effective way.

If you wish to practice on your own, mindfulness meditation typically starts by focusing on the breath. So, simply noticing YOU ARE breathing is a start!

In addition to meditation, mindful movement such as gentle stretching, or walking with awareness of the feet hitting the ground can be helpful.
